Aillwee Cave & Birds of Prey
Ireland’s Premier Show cave is an experience which should be part of everyone’s visit to the Burren. Aillwee Cave welcomes you to its underground surprises. Expert guides will accompany you through beautiful caverns, over bridged chasms, under weird formations and alongside the thunderous waterfall. Marvel at the frozen waterfall and explore the hibernation chambers of long-extinct brown bears. Explore Europe’s largest rock garden – follow the trail up Ailwee Mountain and discover the ecological wealth and diversity that the Burren has to offer.
Take a walk through the Hazel Wood, a working wood where the hazel trees are managed by the ‘Coppicing’ technique. At the Farm Shop, watch the award winning Burren Gold Cheese being made. The Burren Birds of Prey & Educational Centre is home to one of the largest and most varied collections of Birds of Prey in the country. Open-fronted aviaries, with daily flying displays, offer visitors an opportunity to see the magnificent birds up close and personal and in dramatic free flight. This wonderful underground experience is only 35 minute’s drive from Temple Gate Hotel.
